In just the first six years of the worst government in PNG’s history, every person in PNG is now K516 worse off on average. Every single person in every single family in PNG is over K500 worse off because of O’Neill’s economic incompetence. Except of course for O’Neill’s besties.

In contrast, over the six years of National Alliance government until O’Neill took over, living standards went up by K973 on average for every single person in PNG.

PNC – down by K516 per person. NA – up by K973 per person.

PNC living standards cut by 10% from 2012 to 2018. NA living standards up by 22% from 2006 to 2012.

These are official government figures – taken from the recent NSO release on the national economy and PNG Treasury’s own growth forecast for 2017 and 2018. In 2006, non-resource GDP per capita in constant prices was K4,332. By 2012 it had increased by K973 to K5,305 – an increase of 22%. By 2018, it had fallen by K516 to K4,789 – a massive cut of 10% or one-tenth.

And of course these are averages – they do not show how O’Neill and Abel’s besties have made tens of millions for themselves which means that for other people things are even worse.

The people of PNG deserve a return to a government of good economic management. It is time for O’Neill to go.
